At KO & Co Architecture, sustainability is not a separate consideration – it is embedded in the way we think, design and operate. Our Sustainability Action Plan provides a framework for continually improving the environmental, social and ethical impact of our work, both within our studio and across the projects we deliver.
As architects, we recognise the important role the built environment plays in responding to climate change. Through thoughtful design, responsible material selection, ongoing research and collaboration, we are committed to creating places that are resilient, efficient and designed to endure.

what we're doing today
Sustainability starts with our own actions. Within our studio, we have implemented a range of initiatives to reduce our environmental impact, including generating solar power, reducing energy consumption, supporting sustainable transport options, using recycled paper products, and minimising waste.
Our commitment extends beyond the office. Through project research, collaboration with industry partners and ongoing discussions with clients, we actively explore opportunities to improve environmental outcomes and encourage more sustainable design decisions from the earliest stages of every project.
our goals & commitments
Our sustainability action plan establishes a series of short and long-term goals that guide how we work and evolve as a practice.
These commitments include:
advocating for sustainable and regenerative design practices
supporting clients to make environmentally responsible decisions
prioritising adaptive reuse and extending the life of existing buildings where possible.
reducing embodied carbon through thoughtful material selection.
collaborating with consultants and contractors to minimise construction waste
expanding our use of lifecycle thinking, carbon analysis and post-occupancy evaluation to continually improve project performance.
By setting measurable goals and regularly reviewing our progress, we ensure sustainability remains a core part of our design process rather than an afterthought.

our social & ethical commitments
We believe sustainability is about people as much as it is about the environment.
Our approach includes a strong commitment to social housing, creating places that support dignity, wellbeing and community. We are also committed to learning from and collaborating with First Nations communities, deepening our understanding of Designing with Country and embedding cultural knowledge into our work where appropriate.
Within our practice, we foster a diverse, inclusive and collaborative workplace that values different perspectives and experiences. These principles strengthen both our culture and the projects we deliver.
looking forward
Sustainability is an evolving journey. As standards, technologies and industry knowledge continue to develop, we remain committed to learning, adapting and improving.
Our work is informed by leading industry frameworks, certification systems and environmental benchmarks, including the Australian Institute of Architects, Architects Declare, Green Star and other recognised sustainability initiatives. By staying engaged with emerging standards and best practice, we aim to deliver projects that contribute positively to both people and the planet.
