A contemporary, light filled home for a young couple in Byron Bay located on a sloping site capturing views out to the north and north west was designed to both maximise natural light deep into the living spaces while allowing views out the escarpment.
Formally, the house steps and staggers with the slope of the site, navigating through a central corridor connecting the living quarters until reaching an open planned living, dining, and kitchen area at its lowest point where an expansive window is placed to frame the view towards a dense rainforest beyond. An outdoor deck facing the north west sits adjacent to the dining area, inviting the external environment and breezes to permeate through the entertainment heart fit for the lifestyle of the clients who enjoy accommodating friends and family on a regular basis.
The materials nominated for this project complement its surrounding environment with strong references to characteristics of beach-side homes through the employment of materials such as timber and hardwood screening coupled with a combination of natural and muted tones for a subdued but modern home.
