rooftop house
A brief to provide access to an inaccessible roof terrace resulted in a small, yet striking intervention. Located in an inner city suburb of Brisbane, the house was originally designed in the 1990s by Geoffrey Pie. A substantial extension during the 2000s added a roof terrace and living room at the rear of the house with a challenging connection from the lower levels.
By dividing a little used bedroom into a smaller bedroom and outdoor terrace, a spiral staircase is introduced externally, connecting the roof terrace directly from the kitchen and living areas. The roof terrace provides a retreat for the family, with spectacular views over the surrounding suburbs.
