This residential development delivered 92 much needed homes in Chermside, comprising 46 social housing apartments and 46 affordable housing apartments. Located on a prominent site with a beautiful outlook over the parklands, the project has been carefully designed to respond to both its surroundings and the needs of the community.
The building embraces the principles of the Buildings that Breathe guidelines, creating a model for apartment living in our subtropical climate. Every element of the design has been considered to promote comfort, sustainability, and connection, making it an exemplar of best practice in community-focused housing.
A key aim of the project is to foster a sense of belonging and social inclusion. Residents will have access to a variety of shared spaces that encourage interaction and community building. These include a rooftop alfresco common area with sweeping views and smaller communal areas on each level, thoughtfully integrated into the corridors.
Natural light, fresh air, and ventilation are central to the design. Open corridors have been carefully oriented to capture breezes and channel air movement throughout the building, allowing residents to benefit from cross-ventilation within their homes. The layout also provides opportunities for residents to control their indoor environment by keeping entry doors open, while the unit floor plans ensure both privacy and security.
Through its design, this development not only provides much needed housing but also demonstrates how good design can deliver a social, economic, and environmental response—building more than just homes, but a community that thrives together.
